Four boys from the Beaver and Cub section of 1st Luton Sea Scouts attended an awards evening at the Tate Modern after winning and coming runners up in the Art of Scouting competition run by the Scout Association.

Congratulations to Adam for his winning entry for individual written work section, to Matthew for his winning picture in the individual art category and to Kieran and Joe for being runners up in the same category.

They all enjoyed an exciting presentation evening at the Tate Modern, where they took pleasure in seeing their pictures on display and meeting Peter Duncan who presented them with certificates.

Admiralty Inspection 2008

On Tuesday 26th February, the group underwent an inspection in an attempt to retain its Royal Naval Admiralty recognition.  This accreditation allows for many bonuses including permitting the group to use the admiralty symbol on uniforms and donating money to the troop to buy new boats and equipment, so it is very important for the group to preserve.

As a result, we pulled out all the stops on the evening!  Activities included sailing and powerboat training, pioneering, cooking and much more.  The whole troop turned out very well for the evening and the colours and inspection part of the evening went very well also.

At the end of the evening the inspecting officer addressed the troop.  He stated that the troop had held admiralty recognition for over 60 years which is a very impressive record.  He then told us that we would be continuing to build on the record as we had passed the inspection!!!

Well done to everyone who attended!
